Paint it Black

The goals of this project was to reflect colors that show up in black objects. Through this project i was trying to learn how to use colors to add depth to a simple black color. I accomplished this by mixing my complementary colors and adding hues of other colors to create unique blacks. My painting is about reflected colors and simplifying art to make it more appealing. The most difficult challenge I had to face was creating accurate colors and how to dull them down to reflect from my black mug. Although it took a few tries to get the correct colors, it was easy to scrape off the paint and start over with new colors i made. I think my painting really works in the fold of the fabric in the background and in the white flower where i was able to capture the colors found in the white as well. I have learned how to make reflections seem not so scary to paint, and i hope to bring that into my next artwork. In Jillian's artwork i learned how she was able to simplify that crystal ball that i thought looked challenging to paint. If i had a do-over of this project, i would try to make my black pearls look better by adding more color blocks to them and having them not just look grey. My favorite part about my work is how you can see the stripes in the background go up and out of the page because it adds to my composition.

  1. this is a beautiful painting and well worth the ribbon you got. i think you handled the reflection very well . the heightened perspective on the beads works and leads the eye into the painting .
