The Values in Color

Paitning the Pond

In the style of Matisse

Matisse is considered the father of abstract art. He was primarily not a painter, he liked to draw things. So in his paintings, he outlined or drew in his objects when he painted them. Matisse also was fond of patterns and vibrant colors. He simplified and altered the real life things he saw in his paintings. He did this by adding or enhancing colors that were not necessarily there. Matisse has taught me to see more colors than i used to. I was connected to Matisse because his paintings are basically sketches and he used his imagination to enhance colors that he sees in reality. I love his use of bright colors and his ability to bring life to each painting and i'm trying to learn how to paint objects in the distance. For example, he doesn't paint the individual leaves of trees, instead he paints blotches and the areas of where the leaves are.
